Half of pairs 2 and 3

I'm so excited to be invited to author! I finished sock 1 of pair 2 but my wrist didn't like it as much as I do. I'm going to have to take a wee break before I knit its mate.

I've started pair 3 also...another pair of Froot Loops in Colinette Jitterbug.

Pair #3

This is my third pair. I was knitting super fast last week, as I know that I will fall behind. I started an intense college program this week. Basically, I will be taking seven courses in three months. This leaves very little knitting time.

Anywho, onto the socks. These are plain stockinette. The yarn is STR Mediumweight in Lapis. I'm not sure why one striped and the other pooled.

ETA: The new Knitty (Summer 2008) is up! There are a couple new sock patterns I need to go add to my wish to knit list.

Trinity's Socks

You are all such inspirations. Everyones' knitting is so perfect and so beautiful. I am in awe of those who knit socks overnight...incredible. I knit sloooowly for relaxation. I never frog, I always tink, tink, tink. I know, I know...no guts, no glory. Anyway here is pair #1 for the Plunge. It is loosely based on Hearts and Stripes which I got from Knitting Patterns Central. The yarn is Plymouth Wildflower D.K. in Color #63. Other than the square toes and "Donkey Ears" I am quite pleased with them. GRRR..Blogger will not upload the pic. Darling Hubby will help me with it this week-end. In the meantime I will go back to knitting my "plain janes".

slow goin'

well, I only have one sock done. I do admit, I am a slow knitter (I've been knitting for about 6 months), but I also work 10 hours a day, 6 days a week (I only work during the summer), so I can "winter" in the Caribbean. And it's summer in Alaska, which for me, means fishing, camping, and work, but in my free time, I knit. I actually finished my first sock this past weekend around a campfire while fishing on the Kenai River. So, even though I it has been slow going, it's been a very fun event so far (I'm hoping to get at least half the pairs done - I will be 'catching up' in the winter). It's also my second sock ever, so I'm still learning how to use dpns - which I find to be a lot of fun. Good luck everyone. I will post a picture of my pair when I get the other done - I am already quite impressed with myself as the first one turned out pretty nice.

1st Pair Done - Finally!!

My first pair is finished finally. This was such a simple pair and for some reason I ended up frogging them 4 times before I was finally able to complete them. Now I am off to start pair number 2.

1.5 Pairs

Pair 1: These are pretty basic stst socks--toe up, with a short row heel, knit on size 1 needles, with Anne from Schaefer yarns. They're for my mom, who likes her cuffs a bit longer than I do, so the legs seemed to take a really long time!



Half of pair 2: Only slightly less basic (there's a 2 x 1 garter stitch rib) toe up, with a short row heel, on size 2 needles, with Socks that Rock medium-weight yarn (it's one of the colorways from last year's club).

Pair 2 of 52 is done. These were a pair in progress although I did have to redo the toe in the first sock. They came out a little too short so I added a few extra rows before starting the decreases. Onward to pair 3 :)

I finished my Aquaphobia Socks. I made them in Lorna's Laces Shepherd Socks Rainbow. They pooled on the gusset, but they're still pretty!

Good News/Bad News

Good News:
I finished my first sock for the plunge!

Bad News: This followed me home from the Maine Fiber Frolic and I'm thinking that it might cut into my knitting time......

My pairs 1 and 2...

The first socks are Vesper Twist (Jungle) sock yarn. YUM. The second socks are Sunshine Yarns Sportweight in Dragonfly.

I want to make a few pairs of baby socks for Warm Woolies and for a local charity baby cupboard for babies in need to start with. Not only is this good karma, but it’ll make me feel like I’m accomplishing something with this knitalong. At the same time I’m working on baby socks, I’m making some big socks for my husband’s big feet, so it balances out.

Pair #4 Done -- Emma's Anklets

These knit up quickly from the remnants of Pair #3 (Lime and Violet Sasquatch Sock in Violet's Spring and 2.25 mm needles) with yarn left over still. Since they are for our 3-year old, a day's knitting got this pair done.

Oh, and I don't usually knit this quickly, in case people are wondering. I've just had a very productive first week, which kicked off with a pair that I'd started a few days before June 1 and completed after the Plunge began.

With 4 pairs down, however, I can say that I'm feeling like I've collected some breathing space for myself so I can relax a little and enjoy the sock knitting ride!

Yay, I made it!

DONE!!! With only 2 minutes to spare too! I started last Sunday at 9am. This is the fastest I have ever completed a pair of socks! I'm very happy with the way it turned out too. No major mistakes or delays. I even have enough left over for some baby socks of matching fingerless mittens. Now on to sock #2.......

Pair #3 Done -- Enchantress

My third pair of socks is complete as of this evening. These were knit from Lime and Violet Sasquatch Sock in Violet's Spring. I have enough left over to knit one of my girls a pair of socks as well. This pattern will be available later on this month after my test knitter completes the solid color version in black Panda Silk.

First pair completed!

I finished pair #1 today. They are child socks in roughly youth size 1. I plan to knit up a lot of these in assorted child sizes and save them for the next Afghans for Afghans child campaign. The socks were knit from some of my oldest stash, Brunswick Germantown worsted in Penobscot Blue Heather, using #6 needles. The pattern is plain vanilla toe up stockinette with garter stitch short row heel. I would like to make some future pairs with contrasting toes, heels, and cuffs to make them look a little more interesting.

One Down

Well I'm not keeping up with some of you but at least I'm on schedule! By the way, if you ever want to waste several hours of your life, AntiSpySpider will do it. We got hit by this virulent malware and between dealing with it, cancelling our credit card, and installing new and improved antivirus and firewall programs two evenings were gone in a flash.

The toe of the first sock and all of the second were knit during the plunge:

Week 1

Here are my 1st two socks. I started the stockinette pair during the last few days of May because I had no socks on the needles! To compensate for the early start, I made them with 8" cuffs. The stockinette socks are made with Sheepaints sock n'go in garden pond colorway. The floral lace socks are from Lace Style and are made with wollmeise sock in vergissmeinnicht colorway.

The pattern is Momma Monkey Toes - Uzume.

First Pair !!!

I finished my first pair a few minutes ago, quickly took some pictures and now they are getting a nice soak in the sink.

Pattern: Monkey by Cookie A
Yarn: Opal Neon color 1932
Needles: KP circulars size 1
Mods: Only did 4 repeats on the cuff instead of 5. Shorter heel flap.

I enjoyed this pair even tho I felt like I was knitting to save my own life! This is my third or fourth pair and there will be many more in my future, possibly the toe up version or no purl version. So many socks to knit and so much time!

Yarn: Socks that Rock- Medium weight colorway County Clare (not currently available).

Modification: In order to ensure that I'd have enough yarn, I adapted these to be worked toe-up with a "proper" heel.  (If there is any interest, I'd be happy to write it up.)  In the end, there was no need to worry...I have enough yarn leftover to make a third Women's US11 sock!!!

This is my first official pair. It's been fun seeing everyone's socks. We have some fast knitters here too. If this pace keeps up, I think a lot of us will complete our goal!

Sock #1 of 2 of first pair finished!!

In Crystal Palace "Maizy" (corn/elastic nylon) in "sky blue". The yarn was a bit splitty, but not too bad with this pattern. Pattern is "Francie".

I'm still doing the toes... I'm planning on knitting the gusset tomorrow, turn the heel on Friday and finish the socks on Saturday.

I'm not hurrying this :-) I'm knitting 4 projects at the same time and wonder if I'd start two more... I'd really need those things for my summer holiday... Then I'm crocheting a doily too... So I'm not going to take any pressure with these socks :-)

Still working on 1st pair of socks

I am still busy knitting on my 1st pair of socks for the 52 plunge.
Am knitting a lacy pattern called Uzume. My goal is to knit most of the patterns of momma Monkey Toes and also Cookie A.
I found my yarn tonight for Cookie A's sock for next week called SRK On Your Toes w/Aloe Vera.
Also picked up Panda cotton for socks for my future little grandson who we call Peanut.
This is a wonderful journey for all of us planning ahead different yarns and sock patterns.
Congratulations to the ones that are finished already. I also have a 2 pairs of socks on the go which have 3 +1 rib pattern which I call my mindless knitting.
Knit when my friend comes for coffee and to watch Y & R. I can't just seem to sit and watch tv , always have to be doing something with my hands.

First pair done!

I finished the first pair, yay! They are child's size, for CIC, in a DK weight yarn, but still... they are done.

It begins

My goal last week was to get all of the SIPs (socks in progess) of my needles so that I'd  begin June 1 with a clean slate.  Way too much time has been spent on Ravelry sorting my queue to get my sock knitting line-up in order. Ampersand, Anastasia, Mingus, Diagonal Cross Rib, Brother Amos, Swirl Socks, Spring Twists, Eloise, Francie, Tessarae.  (Plus, two designs in my head that want to pop out!)  Talk about sock ducks in a row!!!

 

The 1st came and the knitting gods attempted to foil my plans, but it'll take more than a trip or two to the frog pond to do that!

This is my first finished pair. A stash pattern and stash yarn :) Pattern was originally intended to go with Miss Babs sportweight yarn, but lace pattern was lost in variegated yarn. It looks much nicer with solid.

I've winded yarn for my next pair and will cast on later today. The pattern is May Day socks by Anni Design, available here.

Madmoon's progress

I finished my first pair for the plunge. I started yesterday and just finished. I used Wool-Ease by Lion Brand. My husband loves socks made from this yarn. Now I can concentrate on some sock wips.

just a little daunting...

Seeing how quickly some have completed not just one, but whole pairs of socks - and some cases even 2 pair-  is scaring me a tad.  But I joined this challenge so that I could work on knitting more quickly and efficiently;  I guess if I just plod along at the pace of 1 pair a week (some weeks 2 if child/baby sized), I should do OK. 

 I'm about 1/3 done with sock 1, should have 2/3 done this eve, the rest tomorrow sometime.  I'm trying to break each down sock into components (1/3's so far but this could change) so I don't get overwhelmed.  One sock in 3 days, not bad.  There I go again, counting socks before they're done.  

Have fun everyone! Seeing what has been completed is truly inspiring! 

Pair #2 Done -- Abby's Anklets

These socks were started for my little birthday girl yesterday on her 4th birthday, and I finished them today.  You see them here on her feet, alongside some of her birthday swag.  These were knit from the Fiesta Baby Boom Dreamsicle remnants I had left from my Flamenco socks I finished yesterday.

On to #3!

Ket's Sock Diary day I

I was accepted to Socken Kreativ Liste! I'm extatic! LOL

I have collected so many sock patterns I can't knit all of them during my life time... As if not all the over 400 free sock patterns on-line weren't enough, I just had to buy me Nancy Bush's sock books (only two of them >:-> - Vintage Socks and Folk Socks)...

Yes, I know, 400+ sock patterns will be knitted in 8 years if I do 52 pairs plunge each year... The problem is that the lovely, creative and generous internet community will have created other 400+ sock patterns available free... and the less generous but just as lovely and creative sock book writers have managed to write a dozen or more sock books with more patterns to knit...

It's amazing how something this simple and easy can be variated to that extend!

I'm happy, but you know... there's a slight panic knocking in the back head reminding of all the pretty, soft yarn in the world, the smooth, shiny needles and all the socks I'd like to knit in my life time... *sigh*

The Japanese sock pattern charts are interesting...
One can see very clearly the construction of the sock, and I suppose if it was drawn on paper with squares (I suppose that kind of paper has a name in English... graph paper?), it would be easy to create fair isle patterns or lace patterns on the sock...

My first project is Finnish, called "Little Birds"
The graph is a little similar... you really don't need to know Finnish to knit these socks. (Last in the pattern, on the right side of the last picture, is a link "PDF-kaavio" - PDF chart). My socks are going to be rather big... again.

Two Days In

Well it is June the Second and I have now frogged the sock I am knitting for the 52 Plunge for the eighteenth time. But I will make it and have it done in time to start my second sock, I will survive... Roar!

Off to a good start

Ok, just to keep up I pushed myself to finish one of the legs last night. I can't believe that some of the other knitters are already done with their first pair! I so jealous, if only I had their speed. I am happy that I have 25% of the sock done though. That is faster than I have been in the past.

My hubby says I really need to learn the Yarn Harlot's way of knitting. We saw her when we went to the Maker Faire ( something we would both enjoy) and apparently he was really really impressed by not only her humor, but her speed. He's been pushing me to learn that technique ever since. Unfortunately, since she is the Yarn Harlot, there was a huge crowd. Now I am only 4'11" so he had a much better view when she demonstrated what she was doing. When I ask him what she was doing, all he answers is: "moving her fingers back and forth". Ugghh! He's honestly not much help in the knitting department, but he does have a heart of gold. :)

If any of you wonderful people know the name of her technique or where I can find a video, I would be eternally grateful!

Pair #1 Done -- Flamenco

I've just completed my first pair, which was started last week. My Flamenco socks (pattern available on my website and at Ravelry later on this week) were knit from Fiesta Baby Boom in Dreamsicle. I had enough yarn left over that as you can see in the photo, I've cast on for a pair of footies/anklets for one of the 3-year olds, so Pair #2 is underway.

Sock #1

is finished! I came up with a simple rib and cable pattern on 64 sts and this sock practically flew off the needles. I'm c/o on sock 2 now! Happy knitting!
