Dunegrass and hubbyhouse, 14, 15

I have had a really bad luck with socks this month...
First, I ordered some needles... I have extremely loose hand, so I need sock needles that are smaller than 2mm to knit socks with right gauge... Yes, yes, I know, I haven't spoken of much else this month.
Anyway, I started knitting Dune grass socks. The gauge is up the walls, but I adjusted the pattern. Really, not rocket science. I made one mistake though... it should have been 7n+1 and I made 7n+1 for both needles (I knitted two at a time on circular needles). Then, after the heel I should loose the +1 and have 7n stitches... I had 44, so I went down to 42. In the forming of the nice, nifty triangle in the back of the socks, 7 stitches are decreased. So I ended up with a sock with 35 stitches... for a grown man. Not even I knit that loose! So I tried to add the stitches, up to 49. Well... I suppose that would have worked, but I kept making mistakes, knitting wrong, dropping stitches... it was as if the sock was cursed! I have used two days to try to knit one effing sock leg! This morning I decided to give it up, and just knit the sock in pattern, no fancy heels and such. It took me like 5 hours to knit the legs to both socks. :->

I also made my dearest husband Hubby House Socks of cotton. Cotton is not very nice thing to knit socks with, it's way too sloppy and so, but he likes them just the way they are... too loose to my liking, with the stranded pattern too tight. Wool would be more forgiving... But - he's happy, I'm happy :-)

Now off to next sock project :-)

My first pair is finally completed. Now that I don't have any custom orders to knit I can work on my own stuff for a change!

GI Jane Socks a.k.a. 3/52

This pair goes to Socks for Soldiers. It will be an "off duty" sock due to the color and that the cuff is only 10". Basic ribbed sock, eye of the partridge heel flap.Yarn is Plymouth Encore needle US 4. I will use a 3 on the next pair for a denser sock. This photo was taken yesterday. I turned the heel and finished the gussets this morning. Hoping to complete it tonight and then on to Sock #4 !!!

slow goin'

well, I only have one sock done. I do admit, I am a slow knitter (I've been knitting for about 6 months), but I also work 10 hours a day, 6 days a week (I only work during the summer), so I can "winter" in the Caribbean. And it's summer in Alaska, which for me, means fishing, camping, and work, but in my free time, I knit. I actually finished my first sock this past weekend around a campfire while fishing on the Kenai River. So, even though I it has been slow going, it's been a very fun event so far (I'm hoping to get at least half the pairs done - I will be 'catching up' in the winter). It's also my second sock ever, so I'm still learning how to use dpns - which I find to be a lot of fun. Good luck everyone. I will post a picture of my pair when I get the other done - I am already quite impressed with myself as the first one turned out pretty nice.

Thanks for letting me be part of this

Wow I am finally in and maybe have to spend more time understanding how to post.
I am on my 43 and 44 th pairs of socks since the end of August 2007.
So don't think I will have a problem making the 52 quota.
Also going to have a new grandson the beginning of Sept.
So need to knit lots of baby COTTON socks so I am told.
MY DIL says she wants all the baby things in cotton so will have to find more cotton sock yarns suitable for the new baby.
My other grandkids are just happy to have homemade socks.
They are looking for them already when I visit.
I am a 66 year old grandmother of 3 right now. A beautiful grandaughter who is 10 next month.
My other two grandsons are 11 and 12. So will be nice for us to have a little one to hold again as the older children are pass that already. They sure do grow up fast.
Hugs and blessings everyone to a wonderful knitting experience.
