My first pair is finally completed. Now that I don't have any custom orders to knit I can work on my own stuff for a change!

2nd Pair

This are very basic. K2 x P1 rib for the cuff and regular stockinette stitches for the foot. This was the first time I ever tried the 2-At-A-Time Method. I really enjoyed it. I just should have tried with one of her patterns first instead of trying to figure out how to convert a different pattern. I took way to long on these socks. Sorry.

Off to start my 3rd pair.

Pair 5 done and recorded in my little book. This is the fastest I've ever made adult sizes socks with regular sock yarn on small needles. I'm amazed. Now I can get busy on the next pair. Maybe I'll have the same kind of luck and get them done really fast. :)

My first pair of baby socks. Cute, cute, cute. Quick, quick, quick. 

52PPII sock #3

This pair took longer than I would have liked, but they're done at any rate.  The wool and colorway are fantastic. This is my second pair of socks made from this yarn (Pine Woods Yarn) and  for sure I'll use it again. I was nervous at the start of these as I thought that this colorway would pool, but it didn't. They look good, better on the feet than hanging, I'll try to get a pic of them in situ.

Pair # 4 & 5

Pair #4 is K3, P1 rib over 60 sts on US size 1 dpns. The yarn is Cherry Tree Hill Supersock in Spanish Moss. I really enjoyed knitting this one because of the pretty colors in the yarn.






Pair #5 is Charade by Sandra Park. This is knit in Cherry Tree Hill Supersock in Gypsy Rose.

I'm glad I finally knit up these two skeins. Both have been in my stash for over a year.

So slow, but still kicking!

Mods: Did 2 extra pattern repeats on cuff, and added a few repeats to heel flap

I'm finding it vary difficult to stay on top of my socks these days, but hopefully I'll be able to work out a better rhythm. Having limited time, size 11 feet, and having other projects with deadlines don't always make for quick progress. I've been so inspired by all of your socks and have found a few patterns that I *must* make, so I'm enjoying myself none the less.

Pair #7 Done -- Boys to Men

Boys to Men is a my own pattern, and my #7 pair of socks completed in the 52PPII. The socks shown here are modeled by my 7-year old, Duncan, and were knit from the Regalia remnants (50 grams of Wollmeise in Rittersporn on 2.25 mm needles, toe-up).

This is an embossed moss rib stitch pattern featuring a hybrid gusset and short row heel in three sizes to fit young child through adult men foot measurements. Experimenting with worsted weight yarn and larger needles would create even more sizing options.

I gave myself a break from adult socks and made this pair of baby socks. The pattern is Better Than Booties Baby Socks by Ann Budd. I loved making these. All I can do is giggle at their size. :) Now all my girlfriend's daughter needs to do is get busy makin' teh babeh. This is pair 4.

Pair #6 Done -- Regalia

I completed my sixth pair of 52PPII socks last night. My own design, Regalia is knit from Wollmeise Sockenwolle 100% Merino Superwash in the beautiful Rittersporn color using 2.25 mm needles. Beginning with a folded hem, this design is knit top-down with a mirrored stitch pattern for the right and left legs, the motif is located off center. The heel is a standard heel stitch heel flap with a French heel. There is a standard wedge toe. The sock is designed for Ladies S (M, L) and features optional beading within the motif’s medallions.The design is clearly charted, with no written stitch instructions given for the stitch pattern. Intead, instructions for how to read the chart are given for those who have little or no experience with chart reading

3/52 Complete!

Above a picture of the GI Jane socks and sock #2/52. I've started sock #4 but have frogged it twice already :( Life goes on....and third time is a charm.

Pair 1 to 4

Ok, second try (and let's hope this doesn't show up twice, blogger is annoying me today!). Last year I joined the Plunge and had some strickt rules about the socks I was going to knit. This year, I'm allowing myself to knit all the socks I want in the hopes to get more socks done then last year. So here are the first 4 pairs :

This is pair 3. I was working on firebird when one of my circular needles came apart at the join. i had to wait for a replacement in the mail. In the mean time, I didn't want to loose time so my hubby got another pair :)

Shameful Progress

I have no pictures to add to this wonderful blog because I don't have a completed pair of socks. Here it is, June 18, and nothing to show. How pitiful. Life gets in the way sometimes. I'm not giving up, it's early. You fast knitters out there amaze me, I have to admit. How do you do it?

I have to remind myself that knitting is my hobby, and is suppose to be enjoyed at leisure. I am trying not to get down about the lack of knitting in my life, but after this week, life should slow down a bit.

perfect timing

it just started getting warm in anchorage so you should have a great time. i am from a small island called wrangell - the cruise ships usually go through there. i've lived here my entire life, i leave a lot, but always find my way back - especially in the summer. hope you have a great time.

I'm off for a tour of Alaska from tomorrow to July 9. I will be carrying with me yarn for a pair of Dublin Bay socks (on the needles); Monkeys; a pattern and yarn from The Knitter sock club - This Way and That; and a pair of plain stockinette sport socks. You can see the yarns on my project page in Ravelry. I'm hoping for a lot of knitting time, especially on the cruise part of our tour and at least three pair to show for it.

first pair done!

finally finished my first pair on saturday! i am very happy with how they turned out, though the top of them are a little too tight. my husband had to really work them over his heel. i started a new pair and took some great advice - cast on with two needles instead of one….
the pattern is from Nancy Bush’s book “Knitting on the Road” - Friday Harbor. The yarn is Berroco sox.
THIS IS MY FIRST COMPLETE PAIR EVER (i taught myself how to knit aboard my sailboat this past winter) text!!! i am hooked on dpns, and watching socks come together.
i am open to any advice. i would really like to try the magic loop method - if anyone has any good websites, please let me know!!

I've really enjoyed the plunge so far. I'm a single mom and staying home with children now I've finished my studies, so I have lots of time to knit and I feel I'm really making a dent in my huge sock yarn stash! This pair will be Christmas gift for some relative, I haven't yet decided who.

Got Guage?

Great Guage Tip! This is one of those things you read and then do the duh! "I could a had a V-8" forehead slap. This is so kewl.For those of us who actually swatch....since knitting in the round is slightly different gauge than knitting flat...cast on about 60 stitches, join with out twisting, and devide among 3 needles...each of a different size. Knit the first section with a size 1 needle, second section with a size 2 needle and third section with a size 3 needle. You will have your gauge in the round for that yarn with 3 different sized needles. How kewl is that?. Knit a good 4 inches for your swatch. You may want to wash it and block it before measuring it to insure a great fitting sock. This is easier than knitting 3 swatches. I cannot take credit for this as I KNOW I read it somewhere. Just sorry I cannot remember who is due this credit.

GI Jane Socks a.k.a. 3/52

This pair goes to Socks for Soldiers. It will be an "off duty" sock due to the color and that the cuff is only 10". Basic ribbed sock,eye of the partridge heel flap.Yarn is Plymouth Encore needle US 4. I will use a 3 on the next pair for a denser sock. This photo was taken yesterday. I turned the heel and finished the gussets this morning. Hoping to complete it tonight and then on to Sock #4 !!!

Week 2 - AmyJ: 2 pairs down, 2 wips

Here's the most recently finished pair, in an unknown worsted weight wool that was gifted to me. Basic sock, CO 24 on size 4US. Knit 12 rounds. Knit 12 rows in the heel flap. After heel turn and picked up stitches, decreased back to 24 sts. Worked even until it looked long enough, then decreased for toe down to 8 sts total. Grafted toe.

My second pair, using size 2 needles and Socks that Rock mediumweight. I started them June 8 and finished June 11--it's amazing what 10 fewer sts per round will do for speed!



And then I made a baby pair, from the scraps, using the baby socks with turned heel pattern. That felt a bit like cheating, since I finished both of them in about a day. So my next pair is a bit more complicated:

Week two and another pair of socks is complete.

These will be a Christmas gift.  I think there are 28 weeks until Christmas...there are going to be a lot of socks under our tree this year!

Blogger and I are still getting to know each other. Colors on this are not right, but Oh well...in reality the socks are Aqua,teal and purplish Socotta. Basic Socokatta sock recipe size XL. 2 down and 50 to go!

Trinity's Socks

These are loosely based on Hearts & Stripes Little Girls Socks / free pattern from Knitting Patterns Central. They do have a heart on each ankle. Trinity is very happy with them.

Finished The Father's Day Socks On Time

We had Father's Day early with my Dad this year. We took him to go see a Giants vs. A's game yesterday. I was able to finish this pair on the truck ride over before meeting him in SF. This is pair #2 for me. I think I will try to work on my first pair of Monkeys for this week.

Pair #2 done! This challenge doesn't feel half bad... but I've 50 more to do so I reserve judgement on my sanity.

This pair are made from Regia -  Canyon Colors, #2810. They have 8 inch legs, and are made to fit a W 9.5. Great colorway, fun to knit and because the color changes are so distinct it was fairly simple to get the stripes to match. 

Magic Mirror socks

Pair #4 is done. I waited a while to post this one. I wanted to write up the pattern first and I finally finished that too. I call these the Magic Mirror socks because they do mirror each other. They're sort of like magic because they looked pretty ugly on the needles, but fantastic when you wear them.

Misadventures in Plunge Land

Soooo ... I had high hopes of completing four fairly unambitious projects before Summer of Socks starts.

Goal #1 - Complete Hedgerow socks. Check .

Goal #2 - Knit sock #2 of Serendipity Socks from January RSC kit. Find that whereas sock #1 striped, sock #2 pools. Forge on. Frog short row heel x2. Discover that I have been knitting with 2 2.25 mm needles, 1 2.5 mm needle, and 1 2 mm needle. Decide I cannot handle stupid pooling and must reknit entire sock using complete set of 2.25 needles. Off to frog pond.

Goal #3 - Knit pair of newborn baby socks. Choose Opal baby sock pattern. Get to toe decreases of sock #1 before deciding that pattern writer must have been under influence of some brain altering chemical. Frog sock #1. Reknit using trusted "Pieces of Eight" pattern. Complete pair. Photo to follow.

Goal #4 - Knit second pair of larger baby socks. Complete sock #1. Can I knit sock #2 without mishap???

In the meantime, lose several hours of knitting time to attack of computer virus and DC Orange Line metro meltdown

I'm beginning to think I'm not ready to play in the big leagues. I have officially renamed this exercise the "How many pair can I knit in a year plunge". Since this still has some small chance of being 52, I'm still in the chase.

Pair #5 Done -- Whistle Bait

Blue Moon Socks That Rock lightweight in Dragon Dance on 2.25 mm needles and my own Whistle Bait pattern. I just completed these minutes ago. On to #6!

I'm so excited to be invited to author! I finished sock 1 of pair 2 but my wrist didn't like it as much as I do. I'm going to have to take a wee break before I knit its mate.

I've started pair 3 also...another pair of Froot Loops in Colinette Jitterbug.

Pair #3

This is my third pair. I was knitting super fast last week, as I know that I will fall behind. I started an intense college program this week. Basically, I will be taking seven courses in three months. This leaves very little knitting time.

Anywho, onto the socks. These are plain stockinette. The yarn is STR Mediumweight in Lapis. I'm not sure why one striped and the other pooled.

ETA: The new Knitty (Summer 2008) is up! There are a couple new sock patterns I need to go add to my wish to knit list.

Trinity's Socks

You are all such inspirations. Everyones' knitting is so perfect and so beautiful. I am in awe of those who knit socks overnight...incredible. I knit sloooowly for relaxation. I never frog, I always tink, tink, tink. I know, I know...no guts, no glory. Anyway here is pair #1 for the Plunge. It is loosely based on Hearts and Stripes which I got from Knitting Patterns Central. The yarn is Plymouth Wildflower D.K. in Color #63. Other than the square toes and "Donkey Ears" I am quite pleased with them. GRRR..Blogger will not upload the pic. Darling Hubby will help me with it this week-end. In the meantime I will go back to knitting my "plain janes".

slow goin'

well, I only have one sock done. I do admit, I am a slow knitter (I've been knitting for about 6 months), but I also work 10 hours a day, 6 days a week (I only work during the summer), so I can "winter" in the Caribbean. And it's summer in Alaska, which for me, means fishing, camping, and work, but in my free time, I knit. I actually finished my first sock this past weekend around a campfire while fishing on the Kenai River. So, even though I it has been slow going, it's been a very fun event so far (I'm hoping to get at least half the pairs done - I will be 'catching up' in the winter). It's also my second sock ever, so I'm still learning how to use dpns - which I find to be a lot of fun. Good luck everyone. I will post a picture of my pair when I get the other done - I am already quite impressed with myself as the first one turned out pretty nice.

1st Pair Done - Finally!!

My first pair is finished finally. This was such a simple pair and for some reason I ended up frogging them 4 times before I was finally able to complete them. Now I am off to start pair number 2.
